Janet Switzer: Up Close and Personal
Janet Switzer began her professional career at age 19 as a campaign coordinator for a Member of the United States Congress.
Quickly moving into the marketing field, she worked for an early Apple developer as Product Marketing Manager for the leading tax preparation software on the Macintosh platform (it later became TurboTax for Macintosh).
By age 29, she had built an international publishing venture with over $10 million in assets for one of America’s leading authors.
During her free time, Janet is an award-winning floral designer, design lecturer and flower show judge. She is a three-time winner of the prestigious Flower Arranger of the Year award for California, competes in flower shows throughout the Western United States, travels the world studying with top design instructors, and is an accomplished horticulturalist.
She has exhibited the top design at countless flower shows including the renowned Redlands Horticultural Society show with more than 1,000 entries.
Janet has also had a lifelong interest in agriculture. A long-time livestock producer, Janet raised registered Suffolk sheep and club lambs for over 30 years — selling breeding stock, range rams and show lambs throughout the Western United States and Mexico.
As a livestock judge during the 1980’s, she traveled to national shows and county fairs evaluating cattle, horses, sheep, swine and dairy goats. Additionally, she has been a showmanship coach to top-ranked youth exhibitors.
As a young person, Janet spent 11 years in the 4-H Youth Program exhibiting champion market lambs and winning top honors for public speaking, leadership, and other 4-H projects.
At age 17, she chaired the California State Fair Junior Livestock Task Force and, at age 16, achieved the rank of 4-H All Star, serving as an ambassador of the 4-H Program to civic groups throughout the State of California.
Janet graduated from the University of California Davis with a degree in International Relations and Economics.
While pursuing her degree, she worked as a journalist for a newswire in Sacramento that served media outlets and publications nationwide — writing feature articles on the progress and impact of California legislation, activities of private-interest groups, newly released industry research, political and economic trends, and other topics.
By age 19, she was widely published in newspapers, business and legal journals, and other periodicals.
